HowI Think

I prefer understanding over memorizing.

When something breaks, I trace it past the visible error until I find the assumption that stopped being true.

I like working below abstractions.

I want to know what an abstraction removes, which costs it moves elsewhere, and where it stops holding.

I treat existing code as a system to reverse-engineer.

Before I edit unfamiliar code, I map its boundaries, invariants, and the decisions hidden in its shape.

I care about interfaces as much as internals.

A clean internal model is unfinished if the person using it still has to fight the interface.

I usually learn by building something slightly too difficult.

Most of what I know came from projects that forced me to learn the missing layer on the way through.
